As of December 2024, Dr. Gerry Mugford, the CLSA site principal investigator in Newfoundland, has retired.
Dr. Mugford, an associate professor of medicine and psychiatry at Memorial University, devoted his career in aging to marginalized older adult populations. Over the course of his professional journey, he conducted research on HIV/HPV and the risk of oral, anal and cervical cancers in HIV-positive Atlantic Canadians as well as investigations in a cohort of Newfoundland arthritis patients.
Dr. Mugford served as a founding member of Atlantic Canada HIV Education (ACHIVE) and the Atlantic Interdisciplinary Research Network for Social and Behavioural Issues in HIV and HCV (AIRN) as well as a member of CIHR Centre for Research Evidence into Action for Community Health in HIV/AIDS (REACH) and the National CIHR Research Training Program in Hepatitis C (NCRTP-Hep-C).
Dr. Mugford has been with the CLSA since its inception, and we would like to thank him for all his contributions and wish him all the best in his future endeavours.
