CLSA researcher named director of SFU Gerontology Research Centre

Dr. Andrew Wister, lead site principal investigator of the Canadian Longitudinal Study on Aging at Simon Fraser University, has been appointed director of the Gerontology Research Centre at Simon Fraser University (SFU). The SFU Gerontology Research Centre is committed to high-quality research and knowledge transfer in the field of aging.

Dr. Wister, a university professor in the Department of Gerontology, is an internationally recognized expert on aging research, issues, policies and training.  He is chair of the National Seniors Council of Canada, which advises the Government of Canada on matters related to the well-being and quality of life of seniors. He is currently the lead on the Canadian Longitudinal Study of Aging (CLSA) SFU Data Collection Site at Surrey Campus and the CLSA SFU Computer-Assisted Telephone Interview site at Vancouver Campus.

Dr. Wister has conducted extensive research and has published an extensive number of scientific articles covering: population aging and population health; health promotion and evaluation; healthy lifestyle interventions; self-care, self-help & mutual aid; chronic illness, comorbidity & aging; and living environment transitions.

His term began on September 1, 2016.
