CLSA researcher receives top honour in aging

Andrew Wister, lead site investigator of the Canadian Longitudinal Study on Aging at Simon Fraser University, has been named the 2014 recipient of the Distinguished Member Award by the Canadian Association on Gerontology (CAG).

The award is CAG’s highest honour, presented to recognize a member who has made significant contributions to furthering the objectives of the association. CAG is Canada's premier association of those who work, research or have an interest in the field of aging.

Dr. Wister is a professor in the Department of Gerontology at Simon Fraser University and chair of the National Seniors Council, which advises the Government of Canada on matters related to the well-being and quality of life of seniors. He has conducted extensive research and published more than 150 scientific articles covering: population health, health promotion and evaluation; healthy lifestyle interventions; self-care, self-help and mutual aid; chronic illness and aging; and living environment transitions.

Dr. Wister will receive the Distinguished Member Award at CAG’s 2014 Scientific and Education Meeting on October 18, 2014.
