About the Role
Duration: This is a one-year, full-time position with potential for renewal conditional
on funding and performance.
Start Date: Negotiable start date.
Closing Date: Open until a suitable candidate is found.
Location: While primarily based in London Ontario, remote work options are
available for this role. The position may require occasional travel and/or in-person
meetings and is open to candidates who will reside in Canada at the start of the
position.
Salary: $70,000 per year plus benefits.
The Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics is home to a dynamic research
team conducting research on determinants of healthy aging. Our work focuses on
how social determinants of health, health-related behaviors, and environmental
factors shape health trajectories among middle-aged and older adults in Canada and
Europe. The postdoctoral associate (PDA) will apply their expertise and knowledge to
CIHR and Heart & Stroke-funded projects in one of these areas and will work closely
with Dr. Piotr Wilk and other Principal Investigators.

Key Responsibilities
− Conduct quantitative data analysis using large complex data sets (e.g.,
administrative health databases, survey data, and environmental data)
− Prepare and review analytic output, in collaboration with the research team
− Lead and collaborate on manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed journals
− Contribute to writing and submitting grant applications
− Support the training and supervision of research assistants
− Contribute to knowledge translation activities
− Perform other duties as assigned within the scope of the position

Qualifications
− Recent PhD degree (within the last three years) in a relevant area of focus
(e.g., population health, healthy aging, and/or social and environmental
determinants of health)
− Previous experience with large complex datasets, particularly health
administrative data and population-based longitudinal surveys
− Knowledge of publication processes with demonstrated expertise in leading,
contributing to, and writing peer-reviewed publications with superior writing
skills
− Experience preparing grant applications and, preferably, familiar with
Canadian funding agencies
− Ability to work independently and in a multidisciplinary, international team
environment
− Detail-oriented with an ability to process information with high levels of
accuracy
− Ability to employ a systematic and efficient approach to work
− Excellent communication skills with the ability to document technical
information

The Canadian Statistical Sciences Institute (CANSSI) Ontario is offering funding of up to $5,000 for trainees or researchers affiliated with a CANSSI Ontario member university who are interested in accessing and working with large data sources, such as the CLSA.
