Project Summary

Social isolation and loneliness among older adults are associated with worse health, and older adults may be at increased risk for these conditions. Few Canadian empirical studies have examined social isolation and loneliness among racialized older adults (ROAs), older adults with low income, and/or with low education; nevertheless, each of these social locations may be at greater risk for experiencing isolation and loneliness. The overarching research objectives of this project are to: 1) determine if there are differences in longitudinal trends of social isolation and loneliness among ROAs, low income and low education older adults in Canada and 2) determine specific sociodemographic and environmental risk factors associated with social isolation and loneliness among ROAs, low income, and low education older adults, respectively.
