Project Summary

This project will utilize Follow-up data from the CLSA to expand our understanding of the health risks and resources among lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ+) older Canadians. This study aims to shed light on the health of transgender and gender diverse people within the CLSA, allowing for a more in-depth understanding of the unique health needs and experiences associated with transgender or gender queer identities in Canada. The study will examine the way sexual and/or gender minority identity plays a role in the persistence and change in physical and mental health profiles of this population. Areas of resiliency and their possible effect on the health outcomes of this population will also be examined. By exploring the risks and resources in this population, the study team intends to lay the foundation for a more comprehensive understanding of the ongoing experiences of LGBTQ+ older adults, helping to ensure equitable care.
