Project Summary

As Canada’s older adult population continues to grow, particularly among South Asian immigrants, concerns about healthcare readiness arise, and the health of the aging population continue to mount. Chronic diseases disproportionately affect South Asian communities due to genetic predispositions, chronic conditions, and lifestyle factors. Despite the proven benefits of regular physical activity, many older adult South Asians in Canada, influenced by cultural norms and health challenges, remain less engaged than their Caucasian counterparts. This study aims to uncover the reasons behind this disparity, examining health conditions, socio-economic factors, and mental health’s impact on physical activity levels among older South Asian adults compared to Caucasian peers. Addressing these barriers is crucial for promoting healthier lifestyles and bridging healthcare gaps in aging South Asian communities.
