Exploring the dynamic nature between cognitive function and depressive symptoms

Among persons aged 45 to 85 years, we will examine the effect of cognitive function on depressive symptoms over six years. We will examine this effect for the overall sample and by subgroups of the sample based on (i) changes in cognition over time (increase, decrease, stable), (ii) biological sex, and (iii) levels of social isolation and functional social support. Our work will help identify subgroups of middle- and older-aged adults who may benefit the most from cognitive health programs that reduce depressive symptoms.
