Project Summary

Age-related hearing impairment has a significant impact on the quality of life for many individuals in the aging population. Although, we know that genetic variants contribute to the development of age-related hearing impairment, there remain gaps in our understanding of which genetic variants increase the risk of experiencing age-related hearing loss. This is in part because most of the past large genomic studies have been performed using self-reported hearing loss, which does not always accurately capture hearing loss. Therefore, we aim to carefully characterize hearing loss in the Canadian Longitudinal Study on Aging to identify genetic variants that contribute to age-related hearing loss in both males and females.
