Project Summary

As global demographics shift towards an aging population, there is an increasing need to understand factors that predispose individuals to poor outcomes with age. Metabolon, the Canadian Frailty Network, the Canadian Longitudinal Study of Aging, and the McMaster Institute for Research on Aging will work together to precisely measure over 1000 circulating biochemicals in blood samples taken from study subjects for the purpose of identifying early markers of unhealthy aging. Changes in biochemical levels will be associated with detailed health records from study participants to build a knowledge base to associate disease states and health outcomes. This information will lead to new opportunities to predict, diagnose, and treat people at risk for frailty and premature aging.
