Project Summary
This project investigates factors that influence the well-being of Canadians in middle and later life. Canada, like many other developed countries, is currently witnessing the aging of the population as well as increasing racial and ethnic diversity due to changing immigration patterns. Yet, despite increasing diversity, the implications of immigrant status, race and gender for well-being within and through the middle and later years of life have received limited research attention. Our research will contribute to knowledge in this area by examining: (a) how these factors intersect to influence physical, psychological and social well-being; (b) the extent to which their impact on well-being reflects differences in stress, social support and other coping resources; and (c) how all of this changes as people move through the middle and later years of life.
