Project Summary

The World Health Organization (WHO) defines a new conceptual model for healthy aging in the world report on aging and health in 2015. Instead of considering healthy aging from the perspective of the presence or absence of disease, the new conceptual model focuses on the process of developing and maintaining the functional ability that enables wellbeing in older age, and this functional ability is determined by the intrinsic capacity of the individual, the environments in which they live and the interaction between the individual and these environments. These healthy aging constructs are multidimensional while measures included in each dimension are unanimous. We will construct and test the structural and predictive validity of these constructs from the physical measures, bio-markers, self-reported measures, and the environment data in the CLSA.
