Project Summary

Barriers such as mobility difficulties, memory decline, emotional challenges, social isolation, and difficulties with activities of daily living can prevent older adults from living in their own communities independently and safely. Parkinsonism, encompassing a range of motor difficulties such as tremor and stiffness, may present such barriers due to its effect on mobility, relationship with thinking ability, and impacts on psychosocial well-being. Though research has examined specific individual impacts of Parkinsonism, the literature is limited when it comes to the comprehensive examination of synergistic associations between mobility, thinking ability, psychological and social well-being, and Parkinsonism, and examination of relationships between these factors across time. This project will comprehensively examine these relationships over time. Findings will inform policy and interventions to facilitate adequate supports for older adults to age successfully in their own communities.
