Mobility limitations in Canadian older adults: the effects of hearing loss, combined with physiological, personal, and environmental contributors to mobility and health

Mobility limitations, prevalent among older adults, are influenced by numerous physiological, personal, and environmental factors that are interrelated. Recent studies provide some support for the association between hearing and mobility. However, due to the inconsistencies in methodologies and measures across the studies, it is not clear if the observed association between hearing and mobility is mediated by contextual factors. This study aims to examine the association between hearing, mobility, and physiological, personal, and environmental factors, among older Canadians, using the data contained within the CLSA tracking and comprehensive cohorts. In addition, the baseline, intermediate and the first follow-up questionnaires will allow examination of the relationships between hearing, mobility, and the contextual factors over time. Ultimately, evidence about the factors that contribute to mobility limitations will inform strategies to protect or restore the mobility of older adults.
