Project Summary

Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is a condition that results from severe adverse events experienced by public safety workers, military personnel, and victims of childhood trauma / elder abuse. These individuals often suffer from mood disturbances and heavy drinking. In the CLSA dataset, we will characterize variables of PTSD, depression, and alcohol use, and compare these variables among the high-risk groups, between the high-risk groups and others, and across individuals in different numbers of high-risk groups. We will assess the impact of PTSD on daily activity and healthcare utilization. We will also look for susceptibility genetic and epigenetic markers and measure genetic sharing between PTSD and other psychiatric disorders and traits.
