Project Summary

Most older adults prefer to die at home, however, more than half of Canadians living in Ontario die in hospital. Older adults have expressed their preference for dying at home even when they experience changes in their health or health care. When dying at home is not possible, complications may arise for the individual, family members, and caregivers. The goal of this study is to predict who will experience a home death using data available at the Canadian Longitudinal Study on Aging. Being able to predict home deaths will be useful for clinical counseling and fulfilling the wishes of older adults who wish to die at home.
