Retirement, mental health and well-being in Canada

The goal of this project is to analyze the effect of retirement on mental health in Canada using data from the Canadian Longitudinal Study on Aging (CLSA). We will pay particular attention to potential differences in this effect by individual characteristics like education, social connectedness and, in particular, gender. In addition, we will put our results for Canada in an international context by performing a cross-country analysis. For this, we will combine data sources for Canada, the US, the UK and other European countries. Understanding the effect of retirement on mental health indicators will be very helpful for informing policy.
