Project Summary
Given that there is still no treatment for Alzheimer’s disease, studying its prevention is a promising strategy to reduce the number of cases by examining modifiable vascular risk factors such as hypertension, type II diabetes, obesity, tobacco consumption, and cholesterol. Twice as many women as men are affected by Alzheimer’s disease, and some studies found that these women experience greater cognitive decline. Recent studies suggest that menopause may influence the relationship between cognitive decline and vascular risk factors, but this remains to be proven. Therefore, our study aims to identify sex-related differences in the impact of vascular factors on cognitive decline in individuals aged between 45 and 85 years and to examine the role of menopause and hormone therapy on these vascular risk factors.
