Project Summary
One of the leading cause of deaths in Canada is Cardiovascular disease (CVD), which is the results of atherosclerosis in blood vessels. The measure of carotid intima media thickness (c-IMT) is used as a proxy indicator of atherosclerosis. CVD is strongly associated with depression, but what is the potential mechanism is unknown. A few studies’ results suggest that the presence of depressive symptoms was associated with c-IMT. However, no study has explored if the change of depression status has affected the atherosclerosis process. Using the baseline and the first follow-up data of the CLSA we will examine whether atherosclerosis process is associated with the change of depression status and non-HDL cholesterol. The results from this study may shed a light on our understanding the possible mechanism of atherosclerosis process.
