Project Summary

Aging and immigration have greatly contributed to the growing proportion of older immigrants in Canada. Paradoxical findings have been reported regarding the health disparities between immigrants and native-born populations in Canada and other host countries. Guided by the stress process model and life course theory, this project will use the Canadian Longitudinal Study on Aging to assess the health changes of immigrants during the aging process over time, and to investigate the associations between health outcomes and stressors and mediators. Linear mixed model will be applied to conduct longitudinal data. This project is of great salience considering the predicted growing size of older immigrants in Canada, and the fact that older immigrants have been disproportionately affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. The findings will contribute to a better understanding of the health of older immigrants, as well as inform the policymaking and service delivery.
