The relationship between different chronic conditions and work productivity loss in aging Canadians: an analysis of CLSA data

The prevalence of people with chronic conditions goes up with an aging population. People with chronic conditions may completely stop working, or keep working but reduce routine work hours and/or take more sick leaves. Chronic conditions can also reduce people’s work productivity while they are at work (i.e., presenteeism). Few studies have examined the comparative effects of different chronic conditions on these work productivity losses especially on presenteeism. This study is to measure and compare the relationships between different chronic conditions and employment status and presenteeism as well as examine the sex/gender differences. The study findings will help policy makers and employers prioritize their programs and resources aimed at reducing work disability and improving work productivity among the working population with chronic conditions.
