Project Summary

It is well known that social differences in health increase with age until the age of retirement. What happens after that age is less clear. Theories differ in their predictions and empirical studies so far have not been able to provide a clear answer, mostly due to methodological reasons. Using unique data and state-of-the-art methodology, we will produce an answer to this empirical question of whether the social gradient in health continues to steepen, narrows, or steepens up to a certain age (80) before narrowing, age acting as a leveler.
