Dynamic symposium on aging available through live webstreaming

Sunday, September 27, 2015

A dynamic symposium on aging that will highlight McMaster University’s cross campus research as well as high-profile speakers will be live streamed on the internet on Sept. 30 and Oct. 1.

The symposium, entitled Living Long . . . Living Well, is the McMaster Institute of GeroScience’s first public event, offering a chance to showcase the groundbreaking faculty-wide research on aging taking place at McMaster. Plenaries, presentations and posters will explore aging from a wide range of perspectives – biological, clinical, economic, social and environmental, among others – and how researchers are working together to promote healthy aging.

Sessions throughout the day on Wednesday and Thursday can be viewed live by accessing the link on the Geroscience webpage at http://geroscience.ca.

Both days begin with keynote addresses from renowned international experts. Dr. Ursula Staudinger, Director of the Columbia Center for Aging at Columbia University, will discuss The Plasticity of Aging on Wednesday. Dr. Peter Landsdorp, Scientific Director of the European Research Institute for the Biology of Ageing in the Netherlands, will talk about his fascinating work with DNA, stem cells and aging on Thursday

The complete agenda for both days is available here.

A key objective of the symposium – and the Institute – is to foster national and international collaborations to study aging from cell to society. The McMaster Institute of GeroScience is a unique cross-faculty institute that builds on McMaster’s existing strengths in aging research and brings together researchers, trainees, care providers and community leaders to promote excellence in research, education, community development and knowledge exchange that aspires to improve the lives of people in Canada and globally.
