Hearing loss and healthy aging: The association between sensory and social measures in the CLSA Tracking cohort

Friday, May 6, 2016

May is Speech and Hearing Month, and the focus of the next presentation in the CLSA Webinar Series on May 19 will be on the association between hearing loss and social function.

Using data collected from 21,000 participants in the Canadian Longitudinal Study on Aging (CLSA), the webinar will explore the association between hearing and social function indicators such as network diversity, availability of social support, participation in social activities and feelings of loneliness. It will also highlight the types of individuals with hearing loss who are at a higher risk of having poor social outcomes.

The webinar will be presented by Dr. Paul Mick, an otolaryngologist (head and neck surgeon) with research interests in epidemiology and age-related hearing loss, and Dr. Kathy Pichora-Fuller, an expert in auditory aging and professor in the Department of Psychology at the University of Toronto Mississauga.

The presentation is scheduled for May 19 from 12 noon to 1 p.m. ET. To register for this session, click here.

The CLSA Webinar Series features regular, online lectures from a wide range of researchers with an interest in aging. The webinars are a platform to discuss progress in health and aging research. The presentations are one hour in length and are followed by an audience question-and-answer period.
