International research on aging showcased in CLSA Webinar Series

The first webinar of 2017, “The Longitudinal Study Amsterdam and the challenge of informing policy and practice," will be presented at 11 a.m. (ET) on Tuesday, January 17.

The webinar will feature Dr. Martijn Huisman, scientific director of the Longitudinal Aging Study Amsterdam (LASA). LASA, a study of several thousand older Dutch adults, is the main source of information about the functioning of older people for the Dutch government and acts as the barometer of human ageing in the country. A complex infrastructure consisting of biomedical, psychological and social data, LASA has been ongoing since 1992.

Time: Noon ET
Speaker: James Nazroo, professor of sociology at the University of Manchester, will present “Class, retirement, and inequality in later life: Findings from the English Longitudinal Study on Ageing (ELSA).” Using data from ELSA, this webinar will empirically examine questions on how the nature of later life is changing, with a particular focus on the influence of socioeconomic inequalities on transitions and outcomes in later life.

Speaker: Orna Donoghue, project manager of The Irish Longitudinal Study on Ageing (TILDA) will present “Mobility in Older Irish Adults: Evidence from the Irish Longitudinal Study on Ageing (TILDA).” Dr. Donoghue's research focuses on the factors that influence walking and mobility in older Irish adults, with a particular focus on how these can predict adverse outcomes such as falls, disability, and cognitive decline.
