Updates to the CLSA’s manuscript submission process and publication policy

The Canadian Longitudinal Study on Aging (CLSA) is making changes to the manuscript submission process and Publication and Promotion Policy.

Effective April 2025, approved CLSA data users are required to submit the final drafts of their manuscripts for review through the CLSA’s online application system, Magnolia. Manuscripts submitted via email will no longer be accepted.

CLSA data users are reminded that final drafts of all primary research outputs (including submissions on preprint servers such as medRxiv, bioRxiv, NutriXiv), manuscripts, reports, and other types of media using CLSA data and/or biospecimens must be submitted to the CLSA by the Approved User for review, in accordance with the CLSA Access Agreement and updated Publication and Promotion Policy.

Drafts of abstracts, posters, and presentations do not need to be sent to the CLSA for review, but should consider the Guiding Principles outlined in the Publication and Promotion Policy, including the Acknowledgements and Supplementary Conditions of Use sections.

Data users should also familiarize themselves with other changes to the Publication and Promotion Policy, including:

  • Revisions to the Acknowledgements section
  • Restrictions on small cell sizes
  • Modifications to the core CLSA publication(s) to be referenced

Researchers with questions about the changes should email access@clsa-elcv.ca for further assistance.

How do I submit a manuscript in Magnolia?
Access the relevant application. Navigate to the tab labelled “Manuscripts” (to the right of Part 3 of the application) and add the document. It will then appear in your Manuscript List when logging in.
