CLSA Doors Open Ottawa

Saturday, May 24, 2014

The Canadian Longitudinal Study on Aging (CLSA) will be opening its doors to the public as part of Doors Open Ottawa.

During the annual Doors Open event, historically and culturally significant sites around the city allow visitors to tour their properties free of charge, celebrating the community’s unique heritage and promoting cultural awareness.

Members of the community will be invited to tour the CLSA’s Ottawa Data Collection site on Saturday, June 7, 2014, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The site is located at Bruyère Continuing Care's Élisabeth Bruyère Hospital (Lowertown) at 43 Bruyère Street.

The CLSA is a large, national, long-term study that will follow 50,000 individuals between the ages of 45 and 85 for at least 20 years. The study aims to improve the health of Canadians by better understanding the aging process and the biological, medical, psychological, social and lifestyle factors that shape how we age.

The Ottawa site is one of 11 Data Collection Sites across the country. At these locations, approximately 30,000 of the study’s 50,000 participants take part in a series of assessments that measure factors such as memory, vision, blood pressure, and bone density.

The Doors Open tour will highlight the study’s many different interactive research components. CLSA research assistants will be on site to answer questions.

Free parking is available on the streets surrounding Élisabeth Bruyère Hospital. OC Transpo is also offering free shuttle services.
