CLSA celebrates 1,000 participants in the nation’s capital

Thursday, June 13, 2013

The Canadian Longitudinal Study on Aging (CLSA) reached a new milestone today with the Ottawa Data Collection Site welcoming its 1,000th participant. The site is located at the Bruyère Research Institute and is a joint collaboration with Bruyère Continuing Care and the University of Ottawa.

“It’s a very exciting day for us and we’re thankful to all the people who have volunteered their time to participate in the study,” said Vanessa Taler, site principal investigator, scientist at the Bruyère Research Institute and assistant professor of psychology at the University of Ottawa. “We would also like to recognize the contributions of the staff at the Ottawa Data Collection Site. Their hard work and dedication has made this milestone possible.”

The data collection sites are where the CLSA conducts in-depth physical assessments, lasting approximately 2 ½ hours. Information about physical, emotional and social health functioning are collected and will be used by researchers to better understand the dynamic process of aging.

Of the 11 data collection sites located at CLSA-affiliated universities and research institutes nationwide, Ottawa is the third to reach 1,000 participants.

The site will welcome 2,000 additional participants by 2015.
