Webinar on March 13 will focus on CLSA data availability and access

Friday, February 27, 2015

Researchers from across Canada who study subjects related to the aging process can learn how a rich source of data from the Canadian Longitudinal Study on Aging (CLSA) can help further their work, during a webinar on Friday, March 13 at 12 noon.

The webinar will be conducted by Dr. Christina Wolfson from McGill University, CLSA co-principal investigator, Director of the CLSA’s Statistical Analysis Centre at the Research Institute of the McGill University Health Centre, and Chair of the CLSA Data and Sample Access Committee. Dr. Nancy Edwards, Scientific Director of the Canadian Institutes of Health Research Institute of Population and Public Health, will provide the introduction to the webinar, which will offer an overview of the CLSA, describe the data now available to researchers and the access process.

The CLSA is a national, long-term study following 50,000 men and women aged 45 to 85 at recruitment for 20 years, to collect information on the changing biological, medical, psychological, social, lifestyle and economic aspects of people as they age. These data will be part of a comprehensive research platform that will help create a better understanding of the many factors that have an impact on maintaining health and on the development of disease and disability as people age.

The baseline data collected from the 21,241 participants who completed 60-minute telephone interviews are now ready for access. Dr. Wolfson will describe the type of data available.

The webinar is open to all and will run from 12 noon until 1:30 p.m., with plenty of time for questions from participants.

The CLSA was launched in 2010 with $50 million in funding from CIHR, the Canada Foundation for Innovation, provincial governments, universities and other partners.
